Solar Powered Flood Lights
Two More Reasons to Consider Solar Powered Flood Lights
Contrary to popular myth, solar powered flood lights are a very
cost effective solution, over time, to certain lighting requirements. That, and other reasons, are why their
popularity is rapidly increasing.
When you think of solar powered flood lights you
think of savings from reduced electricity costs over time. Since solar powered flood lights use only renewable
energy power from the sun, they benefit the environment as well as being cost effective. But there is more than
simply the direct electricity savings or the environmental impact to consider. Read on for two more very compelling
reasons for solar powered flood lights.
A standard flood lighting system requires a lot of buried cable
running from the source of the electricity to the lights. Over time, due to less than the best quality cables, root
growth or many other reasons, the cables can break and allow electricity to leak into the surrounding ground. The
ground leakage is called static electricity. In addition to the obvious costs of the lost power, lightning which is
potentially quite dangerous, is more likely to strike ground areas that are high in static electricity than it is
to hit at normal ground conditions.
Since solar powered flood lights are self
contained they have no electrical hookup to the main power supply, nor are they connected via cable in any way to
each other. This means that any leakage is first of all very unlikely. And secondly, if indeed there is a leak it
will be low voltage and isolated to a small area, and not system wide, thus reducing the target area for a
lightning strike.
Yet another benefit of solar powered flood lights is that, because
they are wire-free, it is far less costly to maintain them, Think of a standard flood light system when it does not
function. It almost always means digging up the cable to look for faults. Sometimes the whole wiring system has to
be uncovered before the fault is located. This is very expensive and quite time consuming as well. Instead, think
of solar powered flood lights. If a light does not function you know right where to look. Plus, there is no digging
to get there.
Yes, solar powered flood lights do use less electricity
and yes, they are environmentally friendly. But when you are considering a flood lighting system, also remember
that solar powered flood lights cost less to maintain and are safer as well.
